About Joanne

Hey There,

My name is Joanne and I have lived almost all my life on Vancouver Island in Beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

My husband and I both like to do photography and we have camped all over the island, the Rockies and Oregon. In all my travels I have always loved trees and the ocean scenes but trees do have a special place in my heart.

One year I needed some gifts for some close friends and somehow got this idea to do some burning on wood and see how it went. I enjoyed it. I was using a basic wood burning tool from a craft store. The gifts seemed to be well received and eventually I did a couple more gifts and so on. During this past year my husband came home with a much more sophisticated burner and well, things just took off.

I can lose myself in this craft and it is a great joy during bad weather days in winter.

My husband is a great woodworker and has started preparing all my pieces. We will assess pieces we have and decide the size and shapes they would best suit. He does the cutting and sanding and then it comes to me and I burn the design.

The Artwork

Live Edges

What is Pyrography?

Also known as 'wood burning art', pyrography is burning designs and artwork onto natural sources such as wood or leather. A heated tool is used to scorch the material, and create the design. Pyrography tools come in different shapes and sizes to achieve the desired effect.
